About edie&mare

edie&mare is a family-run press dedicated to helping stories find their perfect form. Founded by Adam and Kayla Heeley, we believe that every idea deserves to be communicated with clarity, precision, and heart.

Our Story

edie&mare was founded in November 2024 by Kayla and Adam Heeley. Kayla, a former teacher, wanted to channel her creativity into helping others, while Adam, a mechanical engineer, was seeking a fulfilling creative change. Together, they decided to build a career they truly loved.

The spark for the business came from a simple observation Kayla made while rekindling her own love of writing. "The more I read, the more I noticed brilliant ideas shared with misspelled or missing words," she says. "I saw exhausted creators and community members who knew what they wanted to say but weren't sure how to say it clearly."

Our Name

The name edie&mare is a tribute to Kayla’s daughters, Eden and Marion. Our model is by their son, Gabriel, whose early business plans showed us the power of a creative mind.

We are also inspired by the generations that came before us: grandparents who told rich stories, a mother who checked our spelling, an uncle who offered critique and encouragement, and friends and fathers who share their narratives in their own ways.

At its core, edie&mare exists because we love stories, and we work hard to make sure they’re told well.

Our Services

We offer a comprehensive range of editorial services—from proofreading to developmental editing—designed to help you communicate your ideas effectively.

We are also a small publishing press. Our publication process is collaborative:

1. Submit your manuscript.

2. We review it and provide constructive feedback.

3. You may revise and resubmit.

4. If accepted, you'll receive an acceptance package with clear next steps.

Whether you choose our editorial services or submit to our press, you are partnering with a team that cares deeply about your work.

Our Titles

We believe in the tactile beauty of a well-made book. That’s why every title in our catalog is curated, designed, and printed right here in Canada.

At edie&mare, we’ve traded the "print-on-demand" machines for Canadian craftsmanship. By choosing to skip the big-box platforms, we ensure:

Superior Quality: Printed on premium Canadian paper stocks.

Local Impact: Every dollar stays within the Canadian literary ecosystem.

Direct Connection: When you buy from us, you’re supporting an Alberta small business and our authors directly.
